Tre Revere Hovse Prorerry.—It has been currently reported among shippers and others interested in increased facilities for the shipment of produce that railway extension to Pownal, if not to Connolly's Waarf, would be followed by the removal of the Ruiilway Station to a more central position, and as the property referred to was in the market for sale, aud the only available grounds for the purpose indicated, it was fondly hoped that such representa: tions would be made by the Board of Trade, backed up by other influential re- presentations of our Island interests at Octawsa as would lead to the securing by the Dominion Government of this valuable acquisition to railway property in Char- lottetown, [t seems, however, that no practical action has taken place ino the matter. It has also been the ** town’s talk” for a long time that the grounds known as the Revere House property would be the most desirable site obtainable within the city limits for a hotel commensurate with the requirements of Charlottetown, and it was expected that a Company for that purpose would be formed and thereby & long-felt want supplied. This movement has also failed to accomplish the desirable object in view, and now this centrally situated properry has been divided into building lots, and advertised by the owners to be sold on Wednesday next, the 22nd imst., at 12 o'clock noon. All chances, therefore, for securing the Revere House property for railway or hotel purposes may be considered amongthe things that are past.

© illor Beer, from the committee ap- pointed to wait upon the Water Cominis- sioners in refereace to the puttiog if ol free hydrawts in certain parts of the ety , he poor, reported that the Commissioners were opposed to putting in the hydrants at ail. The Commissioners informed him, he said, that such a course would mean a considerable loss of revenue, a3 many persons who could weil afford to pay for the water would take it from the public hydrants where they could get it free. They instanced the fountain on Queen Square as a case in point. When that fountain was put there severa) persons on the Square stopped taking the water and got their buckets and jugs filled at the fountain. He was also told that some per- sons called at the Commissioners’ office and asked the clerk when the free bydrauts would be put in; if he thought they would be opened before the next quarter. The Commissioners said that while they were ypposed to granting the hydranta in ques- tion, they were not against allowing poor people to have the water; in faet they would willingly put a free tap into the house of any worthy person who was too pour to pay for it. There was a number of people living in Essory’s lane who eould not get the waterand the Commissioners arranged with Mr. Worth to let them have the use of the tap in his premises near by. Mr. Beer also brought the matter of pumps aud wells before the Board. He said that he had spoken tothe City Medical ofticer on the subject and ascertained that that gentieman would be ready with a strong report when the Council wished.

Councillor Horne thought that at least a few of the pumps should be kept in good working order for the use of horses and cattle.

Councillor Morris was of opinion that samples of the water in the different’ wells throughout the city should be analysed, and that the wells found to be bad should be closed up.

Acting Sanitary officer Cameron, in res- ponse to enquly, reported that men were at work onthe sewer leading from the Davies House, with a view to remedying the nuisance complained of by the Messrs. Duchemia and others. He said also that he had seen Mr. Duchemin and he appeared satistied with what was being done.

Councillor Morris thought that an an- alysis of the water in the wells would be the best course to pursue at present.

Councillor Douse said that this was not the right time of year to have the analysis made.

The Mayor was of a similar opinion.

Councillor Eden, who was on the free hy- drant committee with Councillor Beer, also gave a synopsis of the interview had with the comunissioners. He said {the commis- sioners were prepared to make suitable arrangements with any citizens who were tao poor to pay for the water.
