Summary Report. “Tus Arneneom” was, last evening, overcrowded with an enthusiastic audience. Mr. W. J. Fraser occupied the chair.

HON. MR. DeBLOIS’ SPEECH. Hon. Gro. W. DeBiors was the speaker. He was received with cheers. He said he felt that the Liberal-Conserva- tive Party was again on the eve of a great victory. (Applause.) He was certain that

the men who had promised their support;

would be true; and if so, there was no doubt that McLeod and DeBlois would be elected by a majority of- hundreds. (Cheers.) It was, however, certain that they would not get a single Grit vote ; and there was, therefore, so much the more reason why every Liberal-Conservative should come forward to the poll and vote the square ticket. To-morrow will tell the tale. We now have a Liberal-Conservative Government ; and the Grit members of the late Government, by their undue influence in Dominion elections, are to be thanked. We now have a Government in which all classes are represented ; and all classes are asked to unite in supporting it. He felt certain that every Liberal-Conservative would rally early at the polls and for the candidates of the Party. Mr. DeBlois, at the conclusion of his appeal, was greeted with responsive cheers which had the good old ring in them.

was lundly called for; and on coming for- ward in response to the call was warmly cheered. He said few could accuse him of putting things too mildly; but the very strongest language he could possibly use was none too strong in which to character- ize tho bad acts of the late Government. He was in one of the public offices the other day ; and on looking over some of the pub- lic accounts, he saw that they had done one

‘of the most scandalous things he ever heard

tell of. In the first place the account shows an ADMITTED DEFICIT OF TWENTY-THREE THOUSAND DOL.- LARS. Besides that $20,000 were due the teachers last December. ‘they actually car- ried the amount over into this year’s ac- counts to make it appear that their expend- iture last year was that much smaller than it really was. (Sensation.) But that is not all. $3,000 were due the contractors. Interest was paid upon this amount until after the first of this year ; and it did not appear—as it ought to appear—in last years accounts cither. (Sensation.) It was the act of aset of desperadoes. But that is not all. $9,000° more which were due in December last were, in like manner, taken off the expenditure of last year and placed upon this year, to be shouldered by their successors in office. By adding these amounts together, and taking into consid- eration the AbMITTED DEFICIT of $23,000, it would be found that the real deficit of last year was about $60,000. The late Leader of the Government professed great concern lest his opponents should get control last summer and make ‘‘ ducks and’ drakes” of the Public Accounts. So he remained in office and retained that immaculate lamb William Dunbar Stewart to keep the ac- counts correct. (Cheers and laughter.) Mr. Hodgson then eloquently defended the action of Mr. DeBlois and his friends in leaving the Government; denounced the baseless attacks made upon his private eharacter by the Patriot newspaper ; and olosed his stirring address with an appeal to every man to do his duty—to vote early and to get his neighbor to vote also—in the in- terests of the Liberal-Conservative Party.

He s.id :— The political campaign is about over, and, by to-morrow evening, the result will be known whether the extravagance of the late Government is to be continued for the next four years, or whether the present Government will be returned to carry out their policy of retrenchment. The charges proferre? by our party against the late Gov- ernment for fraud, extravagance, and dis- honesty are FULLY SUSTAINED.
