As the saying goes ”Give me a child until he is seven, and then you may do with him as you like". An exaggeration, to be sure, but containing a very sound and basic truth.

To indulge children in all their desires, to shrirrk from giving correction and discipline and pun- ishment, is to do them a grave in- justice. K:ng David in his wisdom thanked God for chastismg him because it made him see things so very much more clearly. Discipline brought wisdom to David.

not love to refrain from disciplin- ing one's ch.ldren; ii. is a very dangerous kind of selfishness.

Just as parents must. share the task oi discipline with the school, so they must share the imparting oi truth. The school cannot pos- sibly give to a child all the truth he is capable oi receiving, nor all the instructions he needs in par-

ticular times.

Parents, for example, whose rhlldren are on the threshold of manhood and womanhood should, face up to their delicate but very' important duty of educating their children in matters of sex, of their new social position, of the dangers they will meet, and of the proper safeguards. Igiim'aii('e in these matters is very dangerous and I false information is deadly. The wonders of life may be difficult to explain but they need never lose the sacredness and dignity in which God created them.

To be close by to inspire, encourage, and help a son or daughter is perhaps the best. way to foater the chlldis edu- cation, as well as to maintain his confidence and love. One can hardly expect the intelligence and will to flourish in the arid atmos- phere of dislnterestedness. Be keen- ly aware of what your children are learning, and stand by to do your part in this tremendous de- velopmenwthe making of a man.

Parents, do not be discouraged by the obstacles you must face, or by the size of your task. God. who has called you to do this work, will not be wanting to your needs. for He is faithful. And bear in mind that in educating your own child you are educating the nation.
