Policies Shot In Arm

GENEVA (Reuters) Thei seven nation European Free Trade. Association was reported Sunday to be planning to give its trade policies a shot in the» arm to keep pace with the rival six-nation European Common.

The plans were expected to come up for discussion today at the First ministerial meeting of; the EFTA since France vetoed; Britain's bid to join the Com mon Market.

Many EFTA countries believe the trade group now should adopt an overall program on agriculture and in d u st rial nods.

Such a program would place the current EF‘TA policy of piecemeal 10 percent tariff cuts in favor of accelerated tar- iff cuts covering wide sectors. of the economy.

Meanwhile. Austrian Foreign Minister Bruno 'rcisky con- firmed today that Austria would still seek associate membership in the Common Market despite Britain's failure to gain admis- sion.

Although Austria is an EFTA partner, more than 50 per cent of its trade is with the Common Market. compared with about 15 per cent with the other six EFTA nations — Britain Swe- den. .‘orway. Denmark. Portu-. gal and Switzerland. i
