REBELLION IN INDIA.

Gallantry of Loyal Soldiers,

Pesnawara, Aug 31.—It transpires that several native officers at Fort Lundi Kotal, showed utmost loyalty and valor when that post was attacked. Une of them who received a bullet wound in the shoulder continued, despite his injury, to fight and encourage his men until the fort was cap- tured,

The Subadar who conducted the defence of fort Lundi Kotal, was killed during fighting. Amonag the attacking force were two of his sons, while another son fougit at his side.

The Subadar, who commanded the Mullago Company when the enemy enter- ed the fort collected his men and gallantly cut bis way through the ranks of the attackers, He lost several men; bat reached the road to Jamiud without the loss of a single rifle.

The Church Couldn’t Pay for the Work, so the Congregation Déd ir,

Treyrox, Aug. 28.—When the Rev. Dr. J. A, Mann, pastor of the Clinton Avenue Baptist Church, returns from his vacation he will find the church and fence sur- rounding it brigut with new paiat. The Congregation is not a wealthy one, ard a few weeks ago when it was proposed to paint the property the men of the ehurch offered to look atter the building if the women would take care of the fence, which is nearly 390 feet long. The offer was accepied. The building was painted two weeks ago, and the men began to think that the women intended to back out of he agreement.

The work was finished Wednesday. While it was in progress the strange sight attracted many spectators. Some of them praised the painters. Others criticised them for not employing men when so many are out Of work. One of the critics was a welltodo member of the congregation whodeparted hastily when one of the painters stopped work long enough to teli bim that if he contributed more liberal}y the congregation could afford to pay for the work.
