Unemployment R elief Pl-ans Are Discussed

The decision of a meeting of the Government, City Council. clergy and representatives of various soci- eties, held on Thursday, that o. com- mittee of three be appointed, one member by the Clovernment, a sec- ond by the City Council, and a third by the other two, was report- ed to the Unemployed Men's Assoc- iation at a. meeting in the Strand Theatre last evening. This plan was reported to the meeting by Hon. G. Shelton Sharp. Mr. W. A. Stewart, M.L.A., and Councillor A. Mr. Riggs reported that at a meet- ing of the Government on Thurs- day; it was decided to give unem- ployed married ins-n groceries and single men soup. lie believed that camps should be erected a few miles from thc City and the men be given work. He expressed dissatisfaction with such provision. The speaker did not believe that the Govern- ment should dictutc how much and what groceries u man should have. He believed that thc people evicted from their homes should be-provid- ed quarters by the Province and Guy. Mr. Riggs stated in closing that the L. P. U. was to blame for the closing of the Unemployment OlIlCE.
