Bonshaw Interests Threatened

The people of Banshaw have received scant consideration from Liberal governments in the matter of road improvements or railway accom- modation. They are now threatened with losing their water route, as a result of repairs to the West River Bridge which the Provincial Gov- ernment has under operation. The draw in this bridge, which has been in use since the con- struction of the edifice many years ago, is, we understand, to be closed, and a permanent span substituted.

If this plati goes through it will result in disaster to the trade of a large section of the country which is witliotit railway or national highway accommodation. It would mean a com- plete shutting out of all water freight traffic, and render thousands of dollars’ worth of prop- erty, private and government owned, a total loss.

For soine thirty years this water route \vas regarded as of sufficient importance to justify an aiitiiial government grant of $500 to a packet service. The local (ioveriiincnt has discontinued

A Road Courtesy Campaign

A newspaper campaign which the Ontario Department of Highways has launched with the purpose of bringing about some reduction in the appalling number of motor accidents in the pro- vince deals neither with the law nor with the sta- tistics on the subject. It makes an earnest ap- peal for courtesy and unselfish consideration be- tween motorists, “\\'e believe." says Hon. T. B. .\lcQL'r.sTiz.\', Miiiistcr of Highways, “that if we can foster and develop the true spirit of courtesy on the road, motorist's behaviour will just naturally become better and safer." -

The annual convention of the Women's Institutes is always an event of public interest and importance. This year's convention opens this morning in the Prince of Wales College hall, and will continue today and tomorrow. It will be the duty of a Government representative to welcome the delegates. The occasion would seem to be timely for an explanation of the Government's action in connection with the ap- pointment of a successor to Miss MACMILLAN.

From Windsor Castle last week the King motored to Burhill, Surrey, to receive the 5o,ooo pounds ($250,000) model house built by the Royal Warrant Holders Association as a jub- ilee gift to King GEORGE V, who died before its completion. "The King's House," as the build- ing is known, overlooks the Surrey hills with a distant vista of Sussex. The choice of a tenant for the house is a matter for the King's discre- tion.
