This week's article has to do with the high price we have to pay for the privilege of goihg to this _hallowed institution. To wit, I wish‘to open your eyes to the fact that we happen to,have the most policed campus in Eastern Canada._ No- where else, in my experience, have security police been given such sweeping powers. Our mini— Gestapo under the daring leadership of Pork-oral MacAuley and Smelled, has uncovered and super— vised in apprehending culprits of such heinous crimes as leaving the premises iof the Wig & Piss-e1 with a pint of beer. No doubt, this will chasten such evil-

doers.

In other Universities, the campus security is usually confined to handing out parking tickets and playing at night Watchman. However, here at U.P.E.f;‘the admin- istration has seen fit to supervise us with a pack of, power-tripping.‘ Gestapo demi-gods.

However, I do not intend to slash'at the security force as individuals. I would like to lay the blame where it belongs, on the head(s) of whoever is in charge of security. Assuredly, I could see some merit in the secur- ity force if they {were also to bring to

:justice people who Einsist on bringing jviolence to campus. ,This is not done.

§ I really am 5amazed that the fadministration ,doesn't hand out

[rattles and pacifiers (to freshmen during (orientation week so §that they can better fbecome acclimatized ff campus life.

These "policemen" have taken over watching over us while on campus and walking all over us

,if they so desire

without taking any responsibility for us. Surely, with the force they have on hand (highest # of police per capita at any University in Eastern Canada) they should be able to

do both. '

Oh, and if you live in residence and smoke dope or have wild beer parties, don't you worry, big brother porker has a file on You 0 I

P.S. The sergeant of Charlotte- town Police, Sergeant Web- ster, has seen fit to inform me that there is a bylaw in effect that ,hitchhiking is illegal._ This will be en- forced in front of the Sea Treat (corner of Euston and University) and carries a $12.00 fine. So, forewarned is forearmed.

Page Dear Student:

It comes as quite a shock to a student to find that he will have to pay more money than he thought he would. I hate to be the bearer of such news, but that duty falls to me.

'I am regretfully informing you that the Business Office has been directed by the Student Union to collect three ($3.00) dollars from each Canadian, and eight ($8.00) dellars from each Non-Canadian, at registration in Uanuary. This is to cover an increase in premiums (as well as benefits) of the Zurich Insurance coverage. This money SHOULD have been collected at regis- tration in September but due to an over- sight, was not.

A new, more com- prehensive plan was negotiated over the summer. This plan provides for life insurance, accident- al death and dismem— berment, professional services, drugs and supplies, and hospi— tal benefits to ALL students - Canadian and otherwise. The three dollar increase for Canadians is the result of the addi- tion of life insur— ance and accidental D. & D.,plus the "drugs and supplies" coverage. This coverage was not available to Non— Canadians in the past.

We now have the best insurance coverage available to students in Canada. It costs Canadians eleven dollars, and Non- Canadians nineteen dollars. Therefore,

three and eight in January. It was our fault that it

wasn't collected all in one chunk in September..
