N pursuance of an Act of the General Assembly of this island, passed in the twenty-seventh year of the reign of Her present Majesty Queen Victoria, intituled “ An Act to consolidate and amend the several laws imposing an Assess nent on all bands in this Colony, and for the encouragement of Education."
1 do hereby publicly notify the owners or occupiers of Land and Real Estate in Georgetown and Common, for which the Annual Assessment levied thereon by the Assessors for said Town and Common, is payable, that unless the Assessment lor the current year be paid into the hands of Janus Mel’Altnaxn. Esquire, my Collector for said Town and Common, within the time prescribed by Law, proceedings will be taken against all such Lands and Real Estate as shall then be in arrears tor the payment of the sums charged thereon, agreeably to the directions or the above recited

SECOND COMPETITION.
Ranges 300, 400 and 000 yards-5 rounds each range.
Ties to be shot oil at the longest range.
Conditions according to the Rules herewith enclosed.
Open to Members of the Provincial Rifle Association of Nova Scotia, and Militia Officers and Volunteers of the Provinces of Canada, New Brunswick and Prince Edward island, Certified by their Commanding Uliicers to be ellicient in the Manual and Platoon Exercise, and to appear in the Uniform of their respective Corps.
First prize—The Cogswell Challenge Cup, value £100, and $40.00

The Cogswell Cup must be won three times (not necessarily consecutively) belore it becomes the permanent property of the winner. If at the expiration of ten years two or more shall have won it twice, these winners shall compete for it among themselves for the last time. If only one shall have at that time so won it, the competition must go on until another has Won it twice, when the two shall compete finally.
RULES AS AMENDED 1865.
1. The Association shall consist of all persbns paying ten shil- lings per annum, or a donation of live pounds, to the Provincial Rifle Association.
2. Any County Regiment subscribing not less than Five Pounds, annually, to the funds of the Provincial Rifle ASSociation, shall be considered as being in connection with it, and shall be entitled to a number of memberships of Non-commissioned Ullicers and Men in the proportion of one to every eight shillings and l'ourpcnce thus subscribed.
3. Volunteer Companies whose effective strength is over 60 shall pay to the Association Ten Dollars per annum, and shall be en— titled to send six members to the competition. Volunteer Com- panies whose ellective strength is under sixty shall pay eight dollars, and be entitled to send five members. No Volunteer Olfieer not being a subscriber to the Association will be allowed to compete.
«i. All subscriptions trout County Regiments shall be paid through the Commanding Uliicer ol' the respective Regiments.
The alfairs of the .-\ssociation shall be under the control of a Council, Consisting cur wit... ol' the Seeietary and Treasurer for the time being, and also of not less than i‘lllt't‘ll Members nor more than Twenty Members, lilleeii of whom shall be elected annually by ballot at the general liicctiiig, and live subsequently by the Council—live to term a quoiuin.
0. The Annual Meeting of the Members of the Association for the election ot a Council arid other matters, shall he held on the first Monday in May in each year, at such place as may be named by the Council.
7. The Council shall meet quarterly. or ol‘tener, if required by any two of its members, and keep minutes ot its proceedings. it shall have power to elect new members to lill up any vacancy in the Council, and to appoint the Treasurer and Secretaiy, and shall be regulated in their proceedings by such rules or bye laws as may from time to time be enacted by them for the regulation of all matters committed to its charge, subject to the approval of the Commander iii-Chief on all subjtcts ol' a purely military character.
8. There shall be a Patron and Vice Patrons, named by the Council.
0. The Council shall choose from the members elected, a Presi- dent, who shall be President ol the Association.
10. There shall be Vice Presidents. The Senior Militia Olliecrs of Counties (not being unattached), who are subscribers, shall be or of/icio ViCc Presidents. Should the Senior Ullicer not be a sub- scriber, the next in rank, being a subscriber, shall till the ollicc.
11. The prizes of the Association shall be open to the Militia and Volunteers ol' the Province of Nova Scotia, (being subscribers) on such terms, and at such times and places as may be tired by the Council.

All competitors for prizes, (except for the all-Coinch prizes.) shall be required to appear in the uniform of their respective eorps, alid shall be ccrtilicd by their Commanding Utlicei‘s to be cliicient in such Manual and Platoon and other military exercises as may be ordered by the Commander-in-Chlel‘.
BYE-LAWS.
1. An Umpire shall be appointed by the Council. All disputed points shall be decided by the L'mpire, whose decision shall be linal.
2. An Oflicer shall be appointed to take Command of all who may assemble to compete for the prizes, and maintain order and discipline on the hold.
3. The size of the targets, to be used shall be the same as laid. down in the Army Musquctry Regulations, viz. :—

4. All distances up to 300 yards shall be fired oli' the shoulder. Beyond that distance, kneeling, unless oil the shoulder.
5. No magnifying sights, lixed artilicial rests, or hair triggers ,. shall be allowed at any competition, (except at that ol' the all comers.)
0. in all shooting for prizes the minimum pull ol trigger shall not be less than six pounds.
7. Competitors shall, if required, submit their rides for inspec- tloii before, during, or alter liriug.

8. Tir:.‘.—l. Where prizes are competed for at one range only, ties shall lire one shot each at that range until the best shot be re- turned. 2. Where prizes are competed lor at more than one range, tics shall lire one shot at Lhcwiullgce‘t range until the best shot be returned.
9. Government ammunition, as supplied on the ground, shall be used. Any competitor (except for the all-eoiiicrs prizes) inl'ring- ing this rule shall be disqualified l'roln competing for any prizes during the remainder of the meeting.
10. Any competitor discharging his rillc without having pres viousiy obtained periilission from the Ullicer iii eoiiiniziiid olgthe field, or ot the Squad Commander, shall be lined 2 dollars, and in default of payment, be tlisqualilied for competing lor any priZes during the remainder of the meeting.
11. Competitors not allowed to change their squad, throughout the meeting, alter having been once placed.
12. Volunteers and Militia allowed to compete in full or undress uniform.
