ready for the Christmas hol days. The merchants are getting in anew stock of

assist. The small swamps on the George Davies estate and on Government House and on the opposite side of Brighton Road should bave drains to the pond. The city is exteading out in that direction, owing to (be enterprise of our architect, Mr. W. C Harris, and others. As every new house contribnies to city taxation these improve- ments should be made, I suggest thit such improvements shoald be prcceec d with atonce, If mud diggers were pu:
on the pond in January farmer- weuld take away much of the mud for top -dreasing free of charge, and it would give employment to our treckmec during our winter months
The sides of the pood should be planted wich deciduous trees, such as limes, white

What might have beén & serious accident occurred the other day. Mr. Jas. Purcell, who is an expert gouuer, saw some plover in the barnyard and deciding to get a shot
birch, elm and chestnuts, early next spring. The moist soil on the margin of the pend is favourable for the growth of such orna mental trees. The pond, when dredged, would be ased as @ safe boating ground in ali kinds of weather; a smal! charge for he use of it would recoup the city for the outlay. I suppose that an outlay of $60 - 000 would cover the cost of the sewerage for the city, not inciutiug ‘he ccst of dredging the pond. The money could be obtained on 50 years city debentures at 4 per cent.and asl per cent. is added as a sinking tund to extinguish the debt at the end of 50 y ars, the annual interest and siaking fund ld cost the ety $3,750 per ainum. Ti. cost of sewerage reached $100,000, S53906 a year would be required. The value of real estate and perevnal property assessed for taxation this year was in rouad num- bers, $3,500,000. Dominion, and local Government buildings, hospitals, schooler, and churches are exempted from taxa‘ion.
Now, if we go in for sewerage, if we in- creased city taxes On the north side of Richmond Street by | per cent. and the eouth side by } per cent—which I think would be fair, it would provide a yearly income sufficient to pay the interest and sinking fund on the cost of sewerage. If we adopt the dry earth closet system— same as is used so extensively in Germany —it would cost very litle. as the night soil, if removed twice a month by scayengers and dumped into a ficld in the Royalty, would probatly gover the cost, Ifthis plan wre adopted [ think it weuld be necessary to make it compulsory, and all blind wells and dis used welis should be stopped,

After he had spoken it was moved by W. W. Davidson, seconded by A. J. Auge, “that thisclub heartify approyes of the stand recently taken by the Hon. P, Langelier, and emphatically endorses everything that he bas said with regard to the political situation as contained in the statement which he has given to the pub- lic through the press.” That was carried amid great enthusiasm.
