Strawberry Crop Yield Is Best Yet

Strawberry crop yield this year is the greatest ever recor- ded in rhe Island, said C. u. MacLean yesterday.

Mr. MacLean. of C. M. Mac Lean Limited. estimated the crop value at 20 or 25 per cent higher than last year. though a slight decrease in quality ham- pered shipping somewhat. A very wet mom of June ac- counts for the lesser quality. he said. but an ideal July — (I too much moisture or heat brought on the bumper crop.

The berry season. which be- gan about three weeks ago and ends in about a week. was later this year and a few days shor- ter. but good berry-picking wea- ther meant an increase in pro- duction and taster harvesting.

Fears that intense heat dur- ing July would result in simul- taneous ripening ot berries ev- erywhere. making it impossible to complete a harvest. proved ungrounded.

Twenty-tour high school stud- ents from Prince Edward Is- land will leave by train from Borden this morning for a trip to Montreal as part of the Cen- tennial Commission for the 1967 centennial program. Fed- eral-Provincial Youth Travel. The group will spend a week in Montreal on tours and visits. These inter-province visits will continue each year until after the 1907 centennial.
