QUEBEC, Quc.. Sept. 26.—'I'hc Empire Mining and Metallurgical Congress held its flnal technical session at Quebec on Sept. 26th, ‘when three papers by delegates from South Africa were presented. A. Job, resident engineer of the Government Gold Mining Areas. Ltd., ‘Transvaal, described the sink- ing and equipment of the ventila- tion shaft put down on the propor- ty a fcw years ago. This is a circu- lar shaft, 22 fcct in diameter. and is equipped with n fan on the sur- face capable of inducing a flow of 900,000 cubic feet of air per mluuic through thc workings. This Sllillt was sunk to a depth of 2,664 ‘font in a little less than ll months. prob- ably crcating a record. The plan was completed and put into commission lin Augugst, 1925, and it has been irunning perfectly since that time.
