Sir,—The ruling of a majority of the judges in the Gallant appeal case, sug- gests @ new subterfuge under which the bribing politician can with safety purchare place and power. He need only step aside with a voter (say near a feuce)—arrange a loan of a few do lara, pay it through an agent, to the yoter’s wife, and it will be all right. Io the writer’s opinion it will be a'l wrong, and in order tomake it more effec~ tively so, the legislature should at once amend the election act by calling thore loans, what they in reality are, bribes. If this is not done the amount of money which will change hands as small loans without interest or security, at elections, will appal our monye lenders and set in the shade the discount harvests of our most flourishing banks.
