Nova Scoiia, Farmers Reporting One Of Their Largest Hay Crops In Years

HALIFAX (CF) - Nova Scotia farmers are reporting one of their largest hay crops in years and the provincial department of agricul- turcp says the secret lies in the application of nitrogen fertilizers in the spring.

Biggest successes have been re- ported in north-eastern Nova Scotia on farms in the vicinity of the province's experimental farm at Nappan. near Amherst. N. S., where the project was started.

In experiments at Nappsn. plots that received ammonium nitrate at the rate of 45 pounds an acre on the Timothy crop showed in- creased yield, the amount of in- crease d e p en din g on previous fertility treatments.

The Timothy is being rotated with oats and clover on a three- year plan.
