Mrs. Billy layvflaf. in the grass beside him. their heads were showing over the edge oi the bank as they looked down at s hole just out of reach below them. Their eyes were red with the anger or exasperation. To be exasperated is to have some- thing you greatly desire almosz. but not quite. within reach. or to be not quite but almost able to do something you greatly want to do.

Billy and Mrs. Billy wanted to reach that hole below them in the bank and couldn't. Billy had tried to climb to it below, but every time the sand became loose and in spite of all he could do. he would slide back to the bottom each time.
