We are pleased io learn that at the meet- ing of the Marine Board, just concluded, John Nicholson and Samnel Bachannan passed as imasters, and Philip Griffin as mate. ‘They were all prepared at the Com- mercial College, and passed satisfactory ex aminations.

A crrcuLaR has been issued by the Cus- tums Department, Ottawa, directing Collec tors of Customs throughout the Dominion to enforce the law imposing a duty of 17} per cent. on all silver coin imported from the United States. This is in consequence of the remonetization of the silver bill

having passed.

[Since writing the above we learn that the cases of McDonald vs. Bourke, Walsh vs. Doyle, Potier vs. the city of Charlottetown, Murphy vs. the city of Charlottetown, Caf- fery vs. Murley, and the three assault cases, have been dismissed and the judgment of the courts below aflirmed. The case of McCoubray vs. the City Gas Co. was settled out of Court. The remaining cases wall be tried to-morrow. |

One day of last week was ac- tually fixed for an attempt ; but the fear of Russian interference caused them to change their plans, and the conspirators say they must wait until the Russians go.” Sr. PererspurG, May 6.

The Agence Russe has an article referring to statements in a St. Petersburg despatch tothe London Times of April 29th,. that among the concessions Russia should make are limitation of boundaries, the period of the occupation of Bulgaria, the substitution of an envoy for Russian Syndicate to con- sider claims of bondholders, as well as Rus- sian claims of indemnity, and retrocession of but a small slip of Bessarabia, inhabited by Russians.

The Imperial Cabinet has shown that it is actuated by a conciliatory disposition, provided the object of the war is attained.
