As we have not yet learned the full particualrs of Sir Dominick's death, and are some- what deficient in his political and personal history, we are constralned for the present to convey to our readers, in this brief manner, the tidings of the sad event—which will be heard Im many a household in this Colony with unfeigned regret, and from whose family altar will ascend the slinple prayer—may he rest in peace. Since writing the foregolug, we have received our exchange papers, in which we find the following particn- lars relative to Sir Dominick Daly :— « Advices from South Australia, via Panama, to Mareh ath, state that Sir Dominick Daly, late Governor of the Colony, died rather unexpectedly on the 19th February. He had been ailing for some time, but no immediate danger Was anticipated until a few hours before his death, when his medieal advisers announced his ap- roaching dissolution to the members of the family. His excellency retained full possession of his faculties to the last, and pes away asif going tosleep. The event has caused great regret among all classes of colonists, and a procession of about 1,000 of the principal inhabi- tants followed the remains on foot from the Roman Catholic Cathedral to the place of interment Sir Dominick Dely was born in the North of Ireland, in August, 1799, and was consequently 69 years of age. He was at one time a prominent politician In Canada, and in 1851 was knighted and appointed Governor of Tobago. In 1854 he was transferred to Prince Edward Island, and In 1859 to South Australia” Tne report of the remarks made in the House of As- sembly of this Island, concerning the assassination of the Hon. Thomas D'Arcy McGee, and whieh we pub- lish in to-day’s paper, has been furnished to us by Mr. Stainforth McGowan. With the limited space at our disposal, we will be unable to publish any of the ex- tended debates of the House, with the exception, pe r- haps, of the debate on the important subject of Educa- tion. We hope soon to have the copy of this debate placed in our hands, and we shall lose no time In giving it to our reaclers. Cuarcorrerows Depatine CLus.—On Friday even- ing last, the Literary and Musieal Entertainment, which closed the winter session of the Charlottetown Literary and Debating Society, was held in the Temperance Hall, befote a very large and appyeciative audicnce. Owing tothe unavoidablo absence of the Lresident, Vice President Louis H. Davies, Esq., took the Chair, and, in a few opening remarks, apologized for the ab- sence of the President, and called the meeting to order. The Programme for the evening contained many inter- esting andamusing pieces. The different performers acquitted themselves remarkably well, and elicited the hearty applause of their hearers. The music was ex- cellent, and highly creditable to Mes:rs, Earle and Vinnicombe, who received a well merited vote of thanks, and at a rather late hour the aadienee dispersed, well pleased with the evening's entertainment.— Pat. Farmers’ Civn.—At a meeting held’ last evening, the President, Dr. Jenkins, in the Chair, it was de- cided to establish in connection with the Club, a Servants’ Registry, where masterscan, for 1s. 61, en- ter their names and address, together with other parti- culars they may deem necessary. In the House of Conimons on the 26th Mr, Faweett gave notice that on an early day after Easter he should move the following resolution :—That, in the opinion ot this house, the ‘oman Catholic, Presbyterian, and other inhabitants of Ireland, ougat to be placed upon an equality with those of the Established Church, and that.all solide disabilities with. respect to the lellow- ships, professorships, an scholarships of Trinity College.
