An adjourned meeting was held in Strong’s Hall, on Saturday evening last, ‘to hear and take action upon the report of the Committee. James Campbell, Esq., was called to the chair,and Thomas Kelly, Esq., to the Secretary's table.— The meeting was one of the most influ- ential ever held hore. Nearly all the merchants and other business men were present. ‘The resolutions were evidently ptepared with great care, and if endorsed by the powers that be will place in the hands of the people power to manage their own affairs in their own way, with- out the expense which would necessarily attach to in Incorporation Agt—which was by them considered premature. Owing to the press on our space of legis- lative matter, we are cnable to give the resolutions in full, but we give the sub- stance of them in a concise form, kindly prepared and handed us by the Secretary, and our readers will be able to form as good an idea of their import as if we published them in extenso :-— That a law be enacted, vesting in the In habitants the right of self-taxation, for such purposes as they think proper, witli a view to localimprovements, including sewarage, pub- lic streets, buildings, fire department, ete.
