A Minister once said, “The light is bad,
my eyes are dim, and I cannot see to read
‘this-hyem.” If he had purchased a pair of
    «-Lanerus, Morris & Co.'s celebrated Per-
fected Spectacles.” he would have been
sable'to see double, ‘These splendid glass-
‘es are: advertised in another column of our
paper, and we would advise all those who
wish to get a good article, and a pair of
Spectadles that will be a great assistance
to their sight, to call at the Agent's store—
    A. LT, Holman’s—and purchase a pair,

Wailea that the amount realized at
‘the Melpeque Bazaar and ‘Tea was £190.
‘Phis is good, and will enable the folks to
finish their new church at once. We un-
‘derstand that Mr. T, Beattie, carpenter,
and T. Brehaut, Plasterer, have already
commenced to work in it. Both these
igentlomen have earned the reputation of
‘being first class mechanics, and therefore
‘the Malpeque Church will no doubt be a
    00d job when done,

    We have received Livingstone’s Hand
Book and Visitor's Guide ui St. John,”
with an account of Fredericton and the St.
John River, It is published by Gordon
Livingston, and contains a yast amount of
useful and general information, and to a
stranger going to St, John, will be, as a
    guide, invaluable,

WE forgot to acknowledge last week the
‘* Mirror of Typography” received by us.
It is published by ‘T. IL. Senior & Co., and
is especially valuable to printers. ‘The
June No. contains a beautilul fruit-piece
plate, executed in colors. It is really the
most beautitul piece of engraving and press
work we have ever seen, ‘Lhe book con-
    tuins.some excellent specimens of typo-
graphy and interesting matter, The art
of printing is certainly brought to pertec-
tion in the ** Mirror of Typography.”

We have received an interesting ac-
count of the Militia Drill at Port Hill, this
week. It will appear next week,

A Pie Nie party was given on Friday
last, by the friends of the Rey. Mr, Wed-
dall, previous to his departure from the
Bedeque Circuit, The notice of it sent us
is crowded out this weck. We are always
glad to hear of our friends enjoying them-
selves at ‘Tea Parties and Pic Nies, but we
cannot promise to publish lengthy notices
of such until we enlarge our paper—some-
thing we hope to do before very long,

Tux Hon. L. 8, Titey, from the New
    Dominion, arrived here yesterday, Le
leaves again this morning for Charlotte-
town, by the over-land route. During his
    short stay, several gentleman called
on him. Some folks imagine his visit to
the Island is to make an ofler to us to go
    into Contederation. We shall see.

Tu Island Steamers have altered they
route to this port, Sve advertisement

A Live Moose is now on exhibition in

District of Queen's County has been issued
Nomination day on the 27th July, and
election day on the 3rd of August.

Tuk laying of the Foundation Stone of
the new Catholic Church, in this ‘town,
    took place yesterday—their lordshipe Bis-
    hops Rogers and Melntyre, officiating.
In the alternoon the examination of the
Convent pupils was held, and in the even-
ing a Concert given. An immense crowd
of people were assembled, and everything
passed off well. We will next week give
a full report of the proceedings,

    * The Summerside T’rogress and Jounnar
are at liberty to.abuse us with impunity. ‘hey
are smal) potatoes, and are not worth wasting
    powder upon.”

‘The above paragraph we clip from the last
Herald. The astute politician, profound phi-
    losopher, accomplished orator, and polished
writer who fills the editorial chair of that high-
toned and moral sheet, is mighty in the muat-
ter of comparison. ‘Will he ie kind enough,
while taking breath amid the whire of his
multitudinous cares, to inform his readers of
the connection between potatoes and powder?

In the appointments of the P. K. Island

We learn that there were about five hun-
dred persons in attendance at the Camp Mcet-
ing Services at Vownal on Saturday last.

increasing. Mr. and Mrs. Palmer are pre-
sent, and zealously labouringin the cause
which they have so much at heart.—/’at,
