    Hon. Mr. Parmer: I agree with his honor who
    has just spoken with regard to a comparison be-
    tween our tariff and that of Canada, for I think itis
    very favorable to this Island. Their tariff will no
    doubt, be very much higher when the “New Do-
    minion ” comes into operation. They will have to
    raise their revenue Ad falfil their. pledges, first to
    Canada, by maintai a standing army, and then to
    Nova Scotle aud New Bresowick by raising funds
    for railways and other heavy expenditures, I think
    the duties will be from fifteen to twenty or twenty-
    five per cent, higher. It was not, however, to coin-
    ment upon this disparity that I rose but tocall the
    attention of your honors to the circumstances that
    we were raising the duty on imported, without rais-
    ing it proportionably upon home manofactured spir-
