New Glasgow, N.%., while sitting on a chair
waiting for a drink of water,

We direct attention:to the Auction Sale,

    Asher Black.

    Mucancnory Acctpeyt.—On Friday the
‘llth ult , while two children of Mr. John Me-
Kinnon, Master Builder, in the employ of the
‘Hon. J. ©. Pope, were playing together im
un upper room of his residence, the girl hav-
ing jJeft tiem for a few inoments, went down
stairs, she hearirg the children scream, re-
turned to find the little boy, aged two ye rs
and six months, with his clothing all on’ fire,
and the little girl standing close behind him.
She suceeded in extinguishing the tlames, on
the arrival of Dr, Fraser, he gave no hope to
the disconsolate parents. After lingering for
abouttwo hours, the 'ittle safferer’s spirit
fled toa better world. We deeply sympa-
thize with his bereaved parents in their afflic-
    tion’—£x,

    A Prttasty Case.—Richard C:
Edward Power, 20, and Patrick K
26, all belonging to Newfoundland, arrived
Jast evening by train from Shediac. Their
vessel was frozen in at P. KE. Island and
they were obliged to leave her, aud are
now en roufe to Newfoundland. ‘They
went to the police station for protection. |
‘They had not a cent of money and had|
not eaten anything from ‘Thursday morn-'
ing to etldey evening—the chiet of police
ordered food for them.—Sl, John paper.

It is understood that Secretary Seward
has sent Reverdy Johnson a letter reminding
him that Diplomatic interests require that
the negotiations with Great Britain should
be kept more quite, as the publicity given
to them in public speeches and newspapers
in England has added greatly to the em-
    barrasement of the Government.

Lord Napier of Magdala has departed
for India, and will arvive in Bombay iv
considurably less than a year from the
time he quitted that city. Within that
period, from a compar..tively obscure offi
cer, he has become a General of world-
    wide note,

Louis Napoleon was sixty years of age
on the 20th of April last.

Itis stated that Booth, the actor, has
ni:de $24,000, in two weeks, at Chicago.

    London contains fully 10,000 persons}
who support themselves by the pen.

The beautiful island of St. Domingo, is
stillin a state of anarchy. Disorder reigns
    too, ia Mayti and Dominica,

Tho Princess Imperial of Brazil is »Mlicted
with a fearful species of leprosy.

WE notice that there is quite an alarm-
ing prevalence of seurlet feyer in St. John,
