    EDUCATION, which now engages the atten-
    tion of a large portion of our population, 1
    consider it proper bricfly to state my views.

    Secrarran Instirution. I, neverthe
    consider it jst, that so long as it sh iremain
    the policy of the People of this Island to de-
    fray the cost of Educating the Youth of the
    Colony from funds raised by common taxa-
    tion, the sum annually voted by the Legisla-
    ture for Education, shall be apportioned among
    the Schools in which Hducation is imparted,
    and if elected, J shall advocate such amend-
    ments to the Laws relating to Public Lduca-
    tion as will entitle efficient Schools—tf open to
    the inspection of the Executive Government—
    to a share of the grant for Hducation—
    whether such Schools shall be established and
    maintained by Religious denominations or by
    private individuals.
