‘The steamer Meryitt und three brigantines
sailed for St. John yesterday, all loaded with
    flour and pr ions.

    About twenty thousand Norwegian emi-
grants expected in Canada this suminer.

    THE MARKETS.

An advance has taken place in all grades of
flour. Ordinary superfine sold to-day at $8.90
    # $8.95, and strong baker $8.96 a $9. No

to fifteen dollars fitty cents .
    T.ondon, May 6th,

_ Thy great Reform meeting which has been
in cobtemplation for some time, took place in
Ilyde Park in this city to-day. As was ex-
pected, there was a vast crowd in attendance,
though but few speakers. There were no
    riotous demonstrations whatever, and the
services of the police were not required. Not
one of the extra policemen who had been
sworn in for this occasion were present. ‘The
mecting was of very short duration and the
    multitude dispersed without disorder.

The Morning Post in an editorial to-day
expresses the opinion that the government
will not execute the sentence of denth +
    passed upon the condemned Fenians
    and Doran,

    St. Petersburg. May 6th.

The ice went out of the river Neva and
harbor to-day, and the ports of St. Deters-
burg and Constadt are again open to com-
    merce.

    New York, May 7th.

A Cable despatch from London dated May
6th, ning, says that the reform demonstra-
tion in Hyde Park, to-day, was an’ immense
affair, It numbered at least 100,000, em-
    bracing roughs, gentlemen, women, children
    and working men.

Sir Robert Walpole’s proclamation that the
assembly was illegal, was posted around upon
every available spot, but proved utterly abor-
    tive,

‘The morning papers anneunced that the
government would not attempt to put down
the meeting, but all the troops in London and
vicinity were under arms, anda large force
of police were concealed in a secluded part of
the Park, Vehicles were kept ready to con-
vey them to any point in case of a riot.

    Fifteen separate mectings were organized,
atone of which a woman spoke in fuyor of
    universal suffrage.

    One stand was
    speeches,

    ‘The most revolutionary sentiments uttered
by the speakers were loudly cheered by the
    crowd.

The reformers advocated order, and prae-
tically carried out that idea by driving off the
trees in the Park crowds of roughs who were
    perched in their branches.

The entire press denounces the course of
    the Government.

The Tories treat the meetings asa mob
victory, while the reformers claim them as
    splendid popular triumphs.

The bitterest feeling exists on both sides,
and all London is intensely excited. Some
of the mectings are still in progress and will
    continue until a late hour.
