In our present number will be found an ar-
ticle, copied fromthe Daily British Colonist,
of July 16, published in Victoria, British
Columbia, giving an account of the melan-
choly death of Mr. Joun T. Pipwenr, for
many years a resident of this City. At the
time of his death Mr. Pidwell held the oftice
of Superintent of the Vietoria Road Commis-
sion. ‘I'he Colonist says, Mr Vidwell ** was a
man of great energy and ability, aud his loss
in the community will be severely felt.” —Jsl.

    Some American Fishermen were detected
issuing counterfeit half and quarter American
Dollars in this City, a few days since. ‘Two

fof them have been comniitted to Jail to stand

their trial at the next sitting of the Supreme
Court, the others were dismissed for want of
sufficient evidence to implicate them, ‘The
Mayor and some two or three Councillors
were engaged a portion of two days investi-
gating the affair, and examining witnesses.—
    dsl. ;

Bast Harr Sovenviaxs.—Woe are sorry, to
say that spurious half Sovereigns—a very
good imitatation of the genuine coin—are in
circulation in the Islind, ‘Lhe forgery is not
readily detected, inasmuch as the spurious
coin is covered with genuine gold, resists the
ordinary acids by which alloys are detected,
and is of the orthodox diameter and thickness.
‘hese base half sovercigns are dated 1849.
When closely examined, the A in Victoria
appears without any cross—the Royal Arms
present a blurred appearance, erpecially at
the lower purt of the Crown—and the milling
on the edges is rather ill-defined.— 41,

te Mr, Archibald Foibes, of Searle-
town will please receive our thanks for
the very fine heads of Cabbage sent us,

    Leerunn.—Mr. D. A. Cameron, ‘Teacher
of the Wilmot District School, will lecture in
the School House, in Albany, Lot 27, on Fri-
day evening, the 20th instant, at 74 o'clock.

‘Titus remedy has long been cherished by
the community for its remarkable eflicacy in
relieving, healing and curing the most obsti-
nate, painful, and long-standing cases of
Cough, Cold, Influenza, Sore Throat, Bron-
chitis, Whooping, Cough, Croup, Asthina, la-
Hamation of the Lungs ; while even Conswn-
dion itselt has yielded to its magic influence
whien all other means have failed. Its whole
history proves, that the past has produced no
remedy of equal value, as 4 cure for the nu-
    merous and dangerous pulmonary ailections
which prevail all over the lind.

From Anprew Arcusr, Esq.,of Fairfield Me.,

    * About cight years since, my son, Henry
    A. Archer, now Postmaster at Fairfield, Son
erset County, Me., was attacked with spitting
of blood, cough, weakness of lungs, and gen-
eral debility, —so much so that our family
physician declared him to have a‘ Srarep
Coysumprion.” He was under medical treat-
ment for a number of months, but received
no benefit from it. At length, from the soli-
citation of himselfund others, Twas induced
to purchase ove bottle of WIS TAR’S BALSAM
OF WILD CIHLERRY, which benefitted him
so mucli that 1 obtained another bottle, which
in a short time restored him to his usual state
ofhealth. [think I can safely recommend
this remedy to others in like condition, for it
