in this ‘Town, in the following order:

    byterian Church. Subject of Prayer—“Con-
fession of Sin, and ‘Thanksgiving tor General
    Mercies.”

‘Tuesday evening in the Wesleyan Church.
    Subject—* ‘Temporal and spiritual prosperity
    of nations.”

Hs We McKinlay, Esq., favored “the
menibers of this Institute on Tuesday eve-
ning, by a continuation of bis readings
from Dicken’s * Christmas Carrol.” Mr.
McKitmlay who is an excellent reader, ap-
peared to have well imbibed the spirit of
he -eelebyated author, whose vivid) and
    natural description has commanded uni-
    versal admiration,

At the close, remarks were made by the
Very Rey., James McDonald, Jun, Jas.
    Moinhead and several others,

The question asto whether a Railroad
would be practicable on P.. 1, will be
«liscussed betore the Institute on Tuesday

On Tuesday evening last, about 10 p.m.,
‘the alarm of fire was given, when it was found
that the buildings on Water Street. occupied
‘by the Steam Navigation Company. Mr. Con-
nell, and the Masons of Victoria Lodge. had
taken fire. The fire originated in a lower
room of the building, oceapied by Mr. Fran-
cis McKenna, of Quen Street, and from
thence spread to the other parts of the bnild-
ing with considerabl) rapidity befure the
‘steam engine could be brought to bear upon
it. ‘Ihe Steam Navigation Company, Mr.
ngs, and Mr. Connell, were the principal
sufferers. The engines soon arrived on the
spot, and by playing upon the building, kept |
the flames in check fur awhile **** ‘The
    building was partially insured. Ist.

We understand that the ‘' Dawson Cases”
are all settled, the creditors having agreed to
take 108. on the pound in licu of all claims,
and receiving « Bond from Mr. Dawson, sen.,
guaranteeing that amount. Itis a thousand
pities that this compromise had not been ef-
fected in the first instance; what a world of
trouble, anxiety, expense and hard feeling it
    would have saved.—Patriot.

The Bazaar held by the Sabbath Scholars
o: St. James’ Church, was quite a success.
As usual the tables and the sellers were both
attractive. Some of the first musical talent
kindly lent their aid. And the results are—
an exceedingly pleasant evening and ÂŁ60,-/b.

gam" On Christmas Day, and during the
week, several friends called on the Rev. Mr.
Frame, and left suitable presents as tokens
    of their regard for him.
