It will take years to recuperate, and then
if they are true to themselves and retain
fresh in their memories the ruin of the
past, and put their shoulders to the wheel,
they will in a few years be the richest
and the most independent nation on the
    earth,”

tr We were shown the other day a
very beautiful Painting of the Le dp Ship
now being built in the shipyard of the
Hon. J.C, Pope, at Sumnierside, The
picture was designed and drawn by

    fr, Jomn MeKixnon, Master-builder,
nnd painted by Mr. A. Monnison., The

    ainting is exceedingly well executed.
fr. McKinnon’s abilities as a naval archi-
tect are well known, as some of the
fastest vessels that have ever sailed trom
this Island to Great Britain were modelled
by him and built under his inspection.

ter We received this week a note from
Herbert Bell, Esq., correcting a statement
made in eur issue of the 28th Feby., that
the Masonic Hall was his property. He
says, ‘* the few Masons around this place
formed themselves into a company and
built the Hall. I am one of them, and
have only rented the lower storey for a
warehouse.” We are much obliged to
Brother Bell for setting us right, as we
like to work on the square, The Hall is
a credit to the Fraternity at Alberton, We
hope soon to see one in Summerside. Our
reporter, it is to be hoped, will be more
careful in taking notes in future,

3@ℱ We acknowledge the receipt of a
Pamphlet issued by Messrs. Kirkwood, Living-
stone, & Co., whose advertisement is in an-
other part of this paper. It consists of their
Annual Review of the Commercial, Financial,
and Statistical condition of Canada, It con-
tains a vastamount of very useful information,
and also a lucid description of the various
articles of manufacture and Home Productions
    of Canada.

beg We understand that the Milttia of
this County will be ealled out for training in
afew weeks, The names of those Volunteers
who do not attend drill will, we are informed,
be struck off the muster roll. As the Volun-
teer force has many advantages over the
Militia we advise those slready enrolled as
Volunteers to remainin that force as long as
possible, ‘The only way to do this is to at-
tend drill regularly and by that means to
attain sufficient proficiency in military exer-
cises to enable them to pass muster,

pam The Store lately occupied hy Mr.
    G. 5. Muttart, and owned by Mr. John Leard,
on this side Tryon River, valued at about
ÂŁ350, was totally destroyed by fire on the
hight of last Tuesday week. No insurance,

po?" ‘Tun Rey. Mr. Freeman will preach
    (D. VY.) in the Summerside Grammar School
on Sunday next, at 11 o'clock, a, m., and in
the Court House at St. Eleanor’s at 3 o'clock,
    p.m.

a Wr are obliged this week to omit se-
veral advertisements. We hope our patrons
    will pardon us.

ba ‘Tin Seaaersipe Jounnan, as an
advertising medium, is among the first on the
Island. We believe our subscription list is
the second largest on the Island, and it is
    daily increasing.

pan" Handford’s Circular dated St. John,
March 6th. has been received. "It says—
    * Business quict and money market tight: in
consequence of the general depression in all
departinents of trade. Oats isin increased
    supply with fuir demand.

pa The weather, for the past few days
has been beautiful, and the rowds are excel-
lent; but times are dull here as elsewhere.

ap? We learn that Messrs. MeDonalland
Haszard. have entered a protest against the
    Election for this District.

It is rumored in town that the Hon. John
Rose, of Montreal. isto be the next Lieut-
entant Governor of this Island, and that he
will enter upon the duties of that position
soon after the opening of the navigation.—
    Pat.

A dividend of 6 per cent., declared for the
half year ended 16th February last, is now
payable by the Farmers’ Bank of Rustico.
The managers deserve great credit for the
manner in which they have worked this use-
    ful Institution, —/6

    Presestation.—Mr. James J. Rice, B.C.
    M., gratefully acknowledges the following
Note, from Mr. J, Rix, on behalf of the
good people of Miminigash, Lot 3, with «
superb Buffilo Robe. A people who had
previously done well by many acts of personal
kindness, as well as a liberal support of the
Ministry, are fairly entitled to a public
    acknowledgement:

    Miminigash, Fe). 18, 1867.
    Mr. J. J. Rics, bb. C. M.

Rey. anv pran Sin.—In behalf of the Pro-
testant community of Miminigash, [ present
you with a Buffalo Robe, asa token of per-
sonal esteem and their appreciation of the
    Bible Christian Ministry.

Children often look pale and sick from no
other cause than having worms inthe stomach.
    Brown's “‘Vermituge Comfite” will destroy
worms without injury to the child.

    Children having worms require immediate
attention, as neglect of the trouble often causes
    prolonged sickness,

Thave been afflicted a long time with a swel-
ling on my neck and have applied different
things to little or no purpose until T used J. B
Flitch’s Golden Ointment, which has made a
