    Public Meeting. -

A publle ineeting was held in Mr,
Waugh’s Hall on ‘Tuesday evening last,
for the purpose of taking ‘notion in re-
gatd to obtainin increased Post Office
    facilities, and other matters.” Richard
Hunt, Esq., was called to the chair, and
Mr. IL. J. Richardson acted as Secretary.
‘The first resolution proposed was one
asking the Government to place a mitil
Clerk on board the mail Steamer calling
here, in order that we might obtain our
Colonial mails without their first having
to go to Charlottetown, and also asking
fer tho Post Office in Summerside to be
made a distributing office; it passed. A
resolution asking for a grant of money to
lay down side walks in Summerside; one
asking fora Square and Market House ; ote
asking for a grant to build.a new block to
Summerside wharl; an e asking fora

rant te the Canadian steamers, to induce

em t, call at this port. There was also
resolution put to the meeting, asking our
Government to form a ‘Treaty with the
United States, by allowing the Americans
to fish in our waters free, and the Island
fish and produce to be admitted free into
their ports; it was negatived by a small
majority, notwithstanding that it was very
strongly urged by its proposers. We do
not know that there were any more reso-
lutions passed, and we think there were
too many as it was. As we heard an indi-
vidual remark, ** why did not the meeting
ask for the whole revenue at ohee.” If the
Government will give all thatis asked for
we will consider them a true liberal one.

    Panta, Edzct10ns.—The Election for the
Third District of Queen’s County, on Wednes-
day the 17th, resulted in the return of the
Leader of the Government, Hon. George
Coles, by a majority of 826 votes, Mr. Ross
    only polling 25 votes.

For the Second District of King’s County,
Ton. B. Whelan has been defeated, and Mr.
Edward Rielly and Mr. McCermack elected,
Mr. Whelan was 45 votes behind Mr. Itielly,

Wr will endeaver to keep our readers
posted up in the Parliamentary proceedings
while the House is in session.

neice in our harbor is vreaking up. The
channel is guite clear, and we expect to see
the steamer in a few days.

We have received a communication from
Mr. A. A. McKenzie, in reference to the
Teachers meeting recently held in Summer-
side. As its publication would (in all proba-
bility) lead an unpleasant discussion, we can
hol see any use in inserting it.

Tue many friends of the Hon, James Yeo
avill be glad to hear that he is recovering from
    jhis date severe illness.

We understand that Mr. Sampson, the mail

carrier, will in future come in direet to Sum-
merside, instead of going round through St.
Klesnor’s. He will go out through St. Elea-
    nor’s, however, on his return.

    Senious Accipent.—On Tuesday, the 9h
inst., as Mr. tfeney Maatield, of Centreville,
Bedeque, was engaged in goose-shooting, his
gun untortanately burst, tie breech stiking
him on the forehead, Ile did not appear to
sufler much from the effects of the concusssion
until the 16th, when he’ complained of the
brain being cold. On the 17th, medical assis-
tance being called in, he was found to be in a
state of lockjaw. He was immediately put
under the intlucnee of chloroform, the wound
examined, and some fifteen pieces of the frac-
tured skull removed. ‘The wound was then
bandaged up, but after consciousness was res-
    tored, lockjaw returned accompauicd with
great pain, until death terminated his suffer-
ings on the morning of Tuesday, the 18th inst.
We deeply sympathize with his bereaved rel-
    atives.— at,

Eastur Snow or Fat Carrre.—The Easter
Show of Pat Cattle, held on ‘Tuesday last. was
the most creditable to the Colony of any yet
held in this City. Some 12 were exhibited of
as fine stuck as any country need produce.
The respective gross weights are as follows:
Ox fed by Mr. MeNutt, of Darnley, — 1940 Ibs

Cow ted by Mr. Blake, 1890
Ox fed by Mr. Bridges, 1810
Cow fed by Mr. Blake, 1740
    Ox do do 1610
Ox fed by Mr. Gill, Little York, 1400
Ox by Mr Dickieson, New Glasgow, 1390
Heiter fed by Henry Longworth, Esq. 1870
Cow fed by Mr. Holman, 1850
Ox fed by Mr. Blake, 1520
    Cow do do 1270
    Cow do do 1200
    Cow fed by J. W. Pickard, 1090

All these cattle, except those exhibited by
Messrs. Bridges, Gill, Pickard, and Holman,
were the property of Mrs, Blake & Sons,
whose enterprise has done so much to supply
the Charlottetown Market with meat of the
best quality. Whenou a vist to Canada a
year or two go, we attended several Cattle
Shows, but saw no stock there superior to that
exhibited at our Easter Show of Tuesday last.
A few larger animals we did see, but none
that presented so fully the characteristics of
    thorough bred stock.—Pat,

things culled Felons, or Whitlows, Lastyear,

could not tell what I suffered. A few weeks

suffering; but happily [tried your Ointment.
In two days I went to work. It seemed to
