    SUMMERSIDE JOURNA

    i, Ti

    URSDAY, JANUARY 2, 1868.

    ETS

    =

New Year's Day was very generally
observed here as a holiday. ‘The day
was mild, and a large concourse of people
had assembled in the ‘Town. Some
sought pleasure in a sleigh drive, a few
    in displaying their pugilistic powers ;
but the great centre of attraction was the
Tea Meeting in the Drill Shed, where
all the good things of this life were boun-
    tifully dealt out. :

Some lines of poetry sent us will re-
    ceive attention next week.

    James Greenough, Esq., will please
receive our thanks for the late American
    and Canadian papers sent us.

We have received the first number of
the Royal Gaxetle from the office of Kd-
ward Riclly, Esq. It is the same size
as the one recently published by his
    predecessor.

    Harvin's Carexpan for 1868 has
been received by us. It is very care-
tully arranged, and contains a very large
amount of general and useful information,
besides a list of the Courts, Justicos of
the Peace, &c.; a table for oats, as also
one for reducing dollars into pounds,
shillings and pence, is to be found among
its pages. ‘This of itself is well worth
the pxice of it, and no farmer or mer-
chant should be without it. It is for
    éale at our Book Svore.

    Summerside Debatin

    g Bocisty.

The subject of debute on Monday evening
last—'* Would an Act of Incorporation be
    beneficial to Summerside,”—was opened by
    D. Rogers, Esq. After the question was dis-
cussed and a vote tiken, it was decided in
the aflirmative. Subject for next Monday
evening will be—*s Should P. BE. Island be
made a Free Port.” ‘To be opened by the
President, Finlay MeNeill, Esq. An inter-
    esting discussion may be expected.

    The Steamer Panther from Baltimore,
bound to St. John’s Newfoundland, is ashore
at Prospect. It is feared she cannot be got
off. During the heavy weather yesterday she
was obliged to throw 808 barrels of flour
overboard. A schooner is also ashore at the
Eastern Passage. We could not ascertain
    her name,—J/e. Lcpress.

The Christmas market was the largest
we have ever witnessed in Charlottetown,
The spacious new Market Hall was literally
crowded with people, and the supply ot
reese, ducks. turkeys, &&, was so abun-
dant that a considerable quantity of it re-
    mained unsold, ‘The Beef, especially
    Bluke’s was excelleat.—/uĂ©.

We understand that the Revenue for the
financial year, ending the Ist Jannary
next, Will not tall far, if any, short of ÂŁ80,

    A Sranrtiing Trurm!—Iundreds die an-
nually, from neglected coughs and colds,
when by the use of a single bottle of Dr.
Wistar’s Balsam of Wild Cherry their lives
could be preserved to a green old age.

    Filty young Catholic Highlanders, com-
manded by Major Gordon, tormerly of a

A fire broke ont in New York on Tues-
day morning in a tenement house, No.506
Second Avenue, which resulted in the
suffocation of nine persons. It is suppos-
ed that the several persons were dead be-
fore the fire was discovered by the police.

Itis stated, in connection with the recent
execution of Venians at Manchester, that
the Sovereign of England uo longer signs
death warrants or exercises the pardouing
power. ‘The Queen has no more to do
with the matter than the humblest of her

Mrs. A. Allen's Worlds Hair Restorer and
Zylobalsalum or Worlds Hair Dressing are
unequalled, and so acknowledged by all who
use them for restoring, invigorating an-
dressing the hair, rendering it soft, silky and
glossy, and disposing it to remain in any desid
red position; quickly cleansing the scalp, ar-
resting the full and imparting.a healthy and
natural color to the hair. ‘Chey never fail to
restore grey hair to its original youthful col-
or. ‘They act directly upon the roots of tho
hair giving the natural nourishment required,
No lady's toilet is complete without the Zylo-
balsamum or hair dressing. It cleauses the
hair and imparts to it a most delightful fr:
rance, and is snited to both young and old,

    The Restorer Reproduces. The Hair
    Dressing cultivates and Leautifies.

If your hair is thin try it, if scurfy try it,
if harsh try it, if lustreless try it, if none of
these try it, for all who use it will preserve
their hair through life. Vor sale by all Drug-

    Wistar's Balsam of Wild Oherry.

    Coughs, Colds, Bronchitis, Asthina, Croup,
Whooping Cough, Quincey, and the numerous
as well as dangerous diseases of the ‘Throat,
Chest and lungs, prevail in our changeable
climate at all seasons of the year;-few are
fortunate enough to escape their banetul in-
fluence. Low iniportant it is then to have at
hand a certain antidote to all these comy laint.
Experience proves that this exists in Wistar’s
Balsam to an extent not found in any other
remedy; however severe the suffering, the
application of this soothing, healing and won-
derfal Balsam at once yanguishes the lisease
and restores the sufferer to wonted health,

    Mr. JOUN BUNTO,

Or Batuwiy, Curmunea Co., N. Y.—writes:

“*T was urged by a neighbor to get one bot-
tle of the Balsam for my wife, being assured
by him that in case it did not produce good
gileets, he woutd pay for the bottle himself.
On the strength of such practical evidence of
its merits, | procured a bottle. My wife at
this time was sv low with what the Vhysici:
termed Seated Consumption as to be unable
to raise herself fiom tie bed, coughing con-
stanly and raising more or less blood. I
commenced giving the Balsam as directed,
and was so muci pleased with its operation
that I obtained another bottle, and continued
giving it. Before this bottle was entirely
used, she ceased coughing and was strong
enough to sit up. ‘Lhe fifth bottle entirely
restored her.to health, doing that which seve-
ral physicians had tried to do but had failed.”
