Heroic conduct ofa P. E, tsiander,

We learn from the Chicago Zimes of 25rd
June, that on Sabbath the lst a boat called
the * Little Western” was making an ex
sion on the lake, and that she was upset,
two men were drowned, and the remaiaing
number on board were in danger of being
drowned also, ‘he accident was observed
from the shore, when “Mr. KE. J. Fraser,
who, being an experienced boatman,” yolun-
teered his services to take command of a boat
and proceed to their rescue. Among acrow:l
of from 800 to 400 men, some of whom were
accustomed to the sea, but four were found
who would undertake whut was termed a fool
hardy enterprise, ‘I'hese four were university
    students, namely: 1, J. Fraser, G. B. Wood-
    worth, B. B. Riake, and J. 8, Scott. who,
stripping themselves to their pants, succeeded
after considerable effort and risk in getting
their boat through the breakers, pulling to
the ‘Little Western,” and rescuing the re-
maining number on board. “Phe Mr. Fraser
above nientioned is the son of J. J. Fraser,
Esq., of Bt. Hleanor’s, whose hum: ne and
spirited exertions are highly commended by
    the Zimes, who says:—

“These four gentlemen deserve the very
highest favour for their heroic and self sacrifi-
cing attempt—an attempt which more than
one old seaman pronounced, and, in the face
ofits success, Would still pronounce, a use-
less and reckless risk of lite.”
