    3p.m. It is-intended for the investment
    of the poor man’s savings, as well as for
    the pennies of childhood and youth, but
    all classes of the community avail than-
    selves of the many advantages which it
    offers. It is a capital place to keep small
    suins of money not required for immediate
    use. ‘The rate of interest allowed is 5 per
    cent., the smallest deposit is 1s 6d., and
    the largest to bear interest, £100. ‘The
    interest on deposit may be added to the
    principal, quarterly, ÂŁ10,000 of the mo-
    neys in the Savings Bank, may at any time
    be invested in Government Securities

    yielding to the Bank interest at 6 per cent., |;

    The Mon. J. C. Pope left here on Thursday
    en route for England. We wish him no safe
    und pleasant trip. Mr, Pope is certainly one
    ‘of our most enterprising Uusiness men. Ile
    ‘has recently purchased the premises known
    as Pethick’s Brewery, and intends to add this
    vequisition to his extensive mercantile ship-
    ping speculations.— Patriot.

    A Young Woman in Lawrence, Mass., lost
    hher Jife Ly using chloroform to remove spots
    on her face; had she been wise, a box of
    Grace's Salve would have caused the trouble
    to divappear, aud her life would thereby have
    been saved,

    fact that there are many peisons in this
    place suffering tor want of food and fuel,
    and that unless something is speedily done
    for their relief, some of them must perish
    for want of these necessaries.

    charitable society formed here, but the

    Reports are reccived at St. PetersburÂŽ
    from Siberia of the discovery of rich and
    extensive gold deposits on the Amoor
    River, ‘The natives were flocking to. the
    goid regions by thousands. So great was
    the excitement that troops had been sent
    by the Governor of the district to preserve
    order and guard the mines, and desperate
    and bloody coutliets have taken place be-

    tween the natives and soldiers,
    St. Domingo, Jan. 7th.

    The Dominican Government has fled to
    Turk’s Island. Baez has been proclaimed
    President, and the Capital was blockaded
    by his brother for five days. It was ex-
    peeted that Cuiral would t29n announce
    his abdication, Baez was at Curacoa,and
    Ne arvival at Porto Plata was daily expect-
    od,

    Ottawa, Canada, Jan. 7th.

    It is understood that tenders wiil be im-
    mediately invited tor new six per cent.
    Canadian Dominion stock, The loan will
