    Sryonevy, C. B., October 6th.—The French War
    termer “ TY Estaing” has arrived ‘here, and reports
    he loss of the Transport ‘“ Aboundance,” and fifteen

    hurricane of the 22d ult,
    Bosrox, Oct. 9.

    N. „., 9th--Steamer Evening Star, from this city
    for New Orleans, foundered at sca 180 . miles east of

    The President has issued a proclamation for a
    National Thanksgiving on November 29th.

    British stamer Queea Victoria foundered at sea on
    the 4th inst., lat. 33 03, long, 70 $0,

    brig Pomfret, from New York. ..The Engineer died
    from exposnre, and the mate was washed overboard.

    N. „., %h, p. m.—A> Toronto*despatch says the
    Assizes opened yesterday. The Judge, in charging
    the Jury, paid a tribute to the Irishmen for deyetion
    to their native land, and condemned the United States
    authorities for not crushing the Fenian movement in
    its incipiency.

    Santa Anna addressed the Fenians at their Pie Nic
    on ‘Maten Island yesterdey, in which he highly com-
    plimented the Irishmen,

    Col. Roberts in the evening addressed the St.
    Patrick's Circle, and severely denguaced the Govern-
    ment, Stephens, and the New York merchants who
    had failed to make good their promises, Gold 148,

    Orrawa, C. W., Oct. 5,—It is reported on good
    authority ghat the Canadian delegation to England on
    Confederation, will consist of Iloa, Messrs, Cartier and
    “Langevin, of Lower Canada, and McDonald and Me-
    Dougall of Upper Canada.

    Tjiree colonels of Engineers have arrived here, it is
    supposed, with a view of fortilying the city.

    Monreal, Oct. 5.—The war ship Niger has areived
    here.—Weather clear and cold, with sharp frost last
    night.

    “Tonenro, Oct. f= Propammelong are actively pro-
    gressing for the trial of the Fenians, captured last June,
    at the approaching Assizes. The best legal talent of the
    city is engaged on both sides.

    Toxonto, C. W., Oct. 8.—The revenue of the Pro-
    vince for September was $1,170,000, and the expendi-
    tures $716,000,

    Governoment is negotiating with the home authorities
    for the establishment of an Armory in Canada.

    A notice from the English Admiralty Office is pub-
    lished, warning navigators against anchoring near the

    Cable.
    New York, Oct. 12.

    A rain storm of unusual violence has been experienced
    in. the vicinity of Washington and Baltimore, causin
    much damage to by eth and interrupting railwa ane
    for some time, telegraphic communication with the
    fotmer city. Several houses on the banks of the Potomac
    havé been swept away, and two families are said to have
    been drowned, ‘The bodies of several members of one
    family have been recovered.

    steamer Hvening Star, were picked up by the schooner
    Morning Star, which arrived at Charleston,

    At a Cabinet meeting in Washington yesterday, it
    wasdevided to tarn Jef! Davis over to the civil au-
    thorities for trial, which will probably come off in
    November.

    n Ottawa despatch to Toronto Leader says military
    men state object of British Government in sending ad-
    ditienal troops to this country 1s not so much to guard
    against Fenian attacks as to be prepared for more
    serious consequences.

    The number of passengers which have arrived in
    Quebec since the opening of the navigation, is 27,000,
    an increase of 9000 over same last ppar.

    The seizure of the British Steamer ‘ Tornado” by

    of being a Chilian Privateer is assuming a serious

    s should, revise neutrality laws by a united
